On May 1st, May Day Detroit will be standing with others, in the city and around the world, to restore and strengthen the rights of workers and all marginalized peoples. Communities everywhere are ready to call out and resist the extraordinary rip-offs being committed by feckless oligarchs and fascists.
This is a broad unified front in opposition to the America-killing Trump agenda. Detroit’s American coalition will work and go on until the atrocities are stopped and freedom reigns. Wake up to what’s happening. May Day is not just for leftists. You and everyone you know are getting burned in vicious class warfare.

Unions are the last and strongest line to stop the open assault on we the people and our quality of life.

Sadly, sickly, we are made to watch this administration’s methodic tear-down of American institutions and safeguards. Neither party is representing or protecting the people.
The fascists know the threat that unions – our solidarity – represents to their sordid efforts. That’s why they are stripping away things like the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). Everybody needs to stand with them and be ready to fight. The fascists are coming for everybody.
Unions and advocacy groups will be out in numbers for this May Day.
Here’s the point about May Day: the unions are how your security is met and your dreams are realized. This May Day is an important milestone to help stop the ongoing assault against American life.
Honor May Day and show workers and their rights a little love
There is nothing in May Day for the oligarchs or the establishment politicians. May Day, a celebration and a stand for workers, is exactly what they fear and do not want. They have suppressed even the idea of May Day, falsely making it out to be some commie-thing, while bringing our country to its current failing state. It is time to listen to the people of reason and break the cycle of modern slavery.
Workers and activists around the world mark May Day with rallies, calling for higher salaries, reduced working hours (for example, no forced overtime) and better working conditions. We are doing that in Detroit too, to celebrate and demand workers’ rights. May Day Detroit is affiliated with national efforts.
Government leadership has lost its way, so we the people again have to save ourselves. So, here comes Detroit May Day 2025. Unions, and all workers who aspire for better life, are the nucleus of power.
The oligarchs created a class war they cannot win
Oligarchs (super rich people with outsized political influence) are all in for Trump. Because, they know he will slash corporate tax rates, do away with worrisome regulations, and cripple labor movements. These capitalist forces have been having their way for decades. Now, Trump is letting them swoop in for the kill.
Still, we the people can win it all back. And this is where things like the May Day Detroit need to get us started.
Here is the idea of what we need to work toward this May Day and Beyond
- Build solidarity and understanding among the workers and the not-too-large business and entrepreneurs, and other marginalized people like the poor or victimized; unite against cruel capitalists and their stooge politicians.
- Use this solidarity to get the right candidates and win government elections. Oligarchs are the prime enemy of the people.
- Work to keep the working class unified, not falling victim to corruption and immorality. Set a platform that embraces all the people, gets the money out of politics, and makes capital subordinate to labor.
This simple plan is a lot of work, but it will be worth it. By and for the people. Indeed, it is the real make America great again; it flips Trumpism on its head. Oligarchs and the political dupes, like always, will try to kill it at step one. These are extraordinary times requiring brave determined action.
This Detroit working class effort is inclusive and antifascist
If you think about it, we are all antifascists now, at least the vast majority of us. Union solidarity (and May Day) directly stands against fascism and racism.
Fascists push to make people submit. But, there is no safety or relief in submission, the fascists keep coming unless we stand and fight back. Acts of refusal and shows of resistance are increasingly important. Working class solidarity, as expressed through May Day, is the resistance to fascism.
Solidarity needs and respects everybody, meeting them where they are
Working people will prevail in solidarity. It does not matter if you are conservative or liberal, or if you are not able to work. Solidarity respects all religious faith, and can make the government accountable.
Trump betrayed his voters, including union members, with his economic lies and phony populism. His betrayal is starting to come clear to the working class MAGA folks. The money Trump and Musk are playing with belongs to the people. The May Day Detroit community is not going for it. Please join in.
