An Appeal to Stay Strong and Resist Christian Nationalism

This is my open appeal to you – for you to stay strong and resist Christian nationalism. Something like heart to heart. Things came to a screeching halt for me over the last couple of days. My resistance work brought me to that point. I’m coming around, else I couldn’t write this. I know I’m not the only one. Our resistance and our emotional/mental health are woven together.

Stay Strong

We must stay mentally healthy in order to resist Christian nationalism. And to live our best lives! These are this simple man’s thoughts of the day.

On the heels of some notable learning, reading, and new experiences, I inexplicably couldn’t do anything with it. Like I flew into the proverbial fan. I kept coming to this brokenness, lost, and making mistakes. And more. Repeatedly. Not normal. After a restful sleep it persisted and anxiety increased – because it’s not just lost time, it’s lost opportunity. I am back on track; but the wake-up call made me aware that stress can go to immune trouble and even balance. Angst over Christian nationalism can have its way with me; this I learned, and I prayed extra.

I am a blessed and generally strong man. I occasionally go to counseling to help work through a significant loss. It just so happened that today, I went to a previously scheduled session, in my broken state. I was lost but am now certainly somewhat found. Thanks to two counselors. Healing and growing is a process.

Counseling Tidbits

Let our work to resist Christian nationalism be a healthy labor of love.

This might be obvious and you might or might not find it useful, but here are some points that came out during the counseling. The counselor said there is an overwhelming number of people seeking help because they are too upset over politics; their lives are suffering. This burden on people is a tool/intent of tyranny. The counselor was drawing from general trends (not just me).

  • People have a right to be upset but they should not let it run away with them. People are getting sucked in and at some point, they might not be able to deal with it. If things become too much, have the strength to recognize it, along with the associated need to change. Think how best to step back and find the neutral.
  • Today, man’s spiritual battle is fierce. Good versus evil. We all fall short, but some men have power, and man choses to do his thing apart from God – selfish and greedy to their ends.
  • Most every individual yearns to have the basics, under peace and tranquility, which means no guns and boundaries.
  • The truth might never not be fuzzy.
  • Leadership is difficult and needs constant help of the people. We might find it difficult even to lead our homes or lives.
  • It’s not bad, even good, to admit mistakes. Inability to admit mistakes is almost universal among the leaders we criticize.
  • Find simple ways to make life better, appreciate things, and savor life.
  • Bad mental health habits can be destructive individually and collectively. People are too angry at an idiot. It’s a useless drain of energy.
  • Effectiveness of groups – results – start with individuals; it reflects how we treat each other, often determined by one’s ability to say an opinion.

Resist Christian nationalism

There’s almost an industry built up around analyzing and fighting Christian nationalism. Most who care or are paying attention have heard definitions of what it is. The definition used by Amanda Tyler, founder of Christians Against Christian Nationalism, is a good one. “It’s a political ideology and cultural framework that tries to merge American and Christian identities. It suggests that to be a real American one has to be a Christian and not just any kind of Christian – but a Christian who holds certain fundamentalist religious beliefs that are made to align with certain conservative political priorities”.

I am coming to clarity on new suggestions, practical ways, to resist Christian nationalism, that reflect the urgency of the time. So, please stay tuned.
